About Design KG023 - The Desert Edition

KG023 is the baja/desert-spec option in our R MAX lineup - built for owners who actually rip the dunes, the washes, and the desert backcountry. The design uses warm desert tans, coyote browns, and rust-orange accent linework that mirror the colors of the terrain you're riding through. Long horizontal stripes echo the look of class-tested baja race trucks; deeper rust accents at the fender flares and rear quarter panels give the wrap a sun-faded, lived-in feel without actually being faded. This is a desert wrap, designed for people who ride sand and dirt - not a "desert-themed" graphic for someone who only sees pavement.

The layout is templated directly from OEM Can-Am 4-seat body panels - every cut, edge, and seam matches the body geometry to the millimeter, no trimming required. Sport, X rs, and Smart-Shox 4-seat trims all share the same panels and accept the same KG023 kit without modification. This wrap pairs especially well with bronze or gun-bronze beadlocks, tan whip flags, dust-spec air intake covers, and any kind of upgraded sand tires. If your R MAX spends more weekends at Glamis or Ocotillo than it does on a polished trailer, KG023 is the wrap that matches what you actually do with the machine.

Roof Wrap - Add-On Upgrade

The base KG023 kit covers all major exterior body panels but does not include the roof. Matching roof wrap is available as a +$300 upgrade - select the roof variant when ordering, or contact us before checkout to have it added. The roof upgrade includes templated coverage for both hard top and canvas configurations, designed to match the KG023 body layout for a complete unified look.

The Substance Material Stack

Every KG023 kit is built on a 21mil laminated stack using two race-proven Substance Incorporated products: Ultracurve® X1 print media bonded under Ultracurve® 1500 overlaminate. Both products are USA-made and were co-developed with Star Racing Yamaha and Monster Energy Kawasaki for the demands of professional motocross.

The print media - Ultracurve X1 (152 micron / 6 mil): A revolutionary flexible polymeric vinyl with proprietary FLO Technology for bubble-free installation, backed by an ultra-aggressive solvent-based pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive engineered specifically for the low surface energy plastics found on UTVs, ATVs, and motocross machines. Peel adhesion measures 35N/25mm - more than double typical high-tack adhesives.

The overlaminate - Ultracurve 1500 (381 micron / 15 mil): A 15mil clear vinyl overlaminate offering 336N/25mm tensile strength, unmatched gloss and clarity, and industry-leading abrasion resistance. The same overlaminate seen on Eli Tomac's Monster Energy KX450F at the Monster Energy Cup.

This material spec costs significantly more per square foot than generic 3M cast vinyl - but on a $40,000+ flagship UTV like the R MAX, it's worth it. Substance holds tighter to R-platform plastics, resists lifting at door edges and fender corners, survives mud, sand, water crossings, and pressure washing, and looks newer longer.

DIY Installation

KG023 installs in about 5 to 10 hours for an experienced installer with the body panels off the chassis. One real-world note for desert riders: install the wrap BEFORE your machine has been baking in 110-degree summer heat for weeks - vinyl adhesives bond best on body panels at room temperature (around 70°F). If you're installing in summer, do it in an air-conditioned garage early in the morning. You'll want a heat gun on low for the tight curves, a felt-edged squeegee, IPA at 91% or higher, clean microfiber towels, a sharp utility blade, and a patient afternoon. Step-by-step illustrated instructions ship with every kit. If you'd rather have it done by a pro, expect $400-$900 from a local wrap shop, with UTV specialists trending toward the higher end.

Care & Lifespan

Treated right, KG023 lasts 3 to 5+ years under normal trail riding. Wash gently with mild soap and low-pressure water. Keep pressure washer wands at least 12 inches from the surface. Avoid harsh chemicals like degreasers, brake cleaner, or gasoline near the graphics. Store the R MAX out of direct sun when possible to extend wrap life.

Customization

KG023 looks great as-shipped, but if you want it customized we can swap the rust accents for OD green (jungle/woodland version), darker browns (mountain spec), or bright orange (Glamis/Ocotillo high-vis spec). Sponsor logos, race numbers, and team callouts all work cleanly in the open quarter panels without disrupting the desert flow. Send a message before ordering with what you'd like done.
